Superintendent's Message Dr. Jody Ware, Superintendent of Schools
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Morrison Community Unit District #6. Morrison School District continues with its reputation of being one of the finest in northwestern Illinois. We are looking forward to another exciting school year focusing on student achievement, providing a safe and healthy learning environment and engaging the community and families in our school system. Our district places student instruction as our top priority. Over the past four years, our student performance scores, based on state assessment, has continued to increase. Our total student population scores 85% or better in all students meeting or exceeding State of Illinois Learning Standards in reading and mathematics. This is a percentage that is very impressive for a school district. I believe that these results have occurred because of our district’s commitment to high quality instruction, state-of-the-art technology, a safe inviting learning environment, and the highly qualified staff that works with our students each day. As we prepare for the new school year, many improvements have been made in our district. One of the most impressive improvements is in the area of technology with the upgrade of computers at the high school, and the development of two new computer labs; one at Morrison Junior High School, and one additional lab at Morrison High School. Also, every classroom at Southside Elementary School and Morrison High School is equipped with a SMARTBoard. A SMARTBoard is an electronic white board and computer combined. Classroom teachers have access to internet, videostreaming, and other educational tools to enhance learning. If you haven’t experienced a SMARTBoard, please take the opportunity to visit a classroom at Southside Elementary or Morrison High School. You will be so glad that you did! There have been many facility improvements over the summer months. Cement work on outdoor stoops at Northside and Southside has been completed. Also, a new ramp access into Morrison High School has been completed. A new front walk that includes the Morrison Mustang logo has been installed at Morrison High School. All of this work was necessary in order to keep our district safe for entry into our buildings. The most noticeable summer work is the new flooring and painting at Southside Elementary School. Southside Elementary School has new tiling in the hallways and new carpeting in the classrooms and library. Northside Elementary School also has new carpeting in the library area. Again, this work was necessary in order to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our students. Our district has a strategic plan that is referred to as a “Plan on a Page.” An important component of this plan is to engage the community and families in our school system. Our district Board of Education, leadership team and staff have a commitment to provide the highest quality of education to every child in our district. As listed in this plan, we are also asking for a partnership with parents and community. Please get involved in your child’s education or your community school district. We need everyone’s support in order to provide every child with a meaningful educational program. Finally, our doors are always open to the public and time is available for your input. Please visit our district website at www.morrisonschools.org to learn about events and news in our district! |
