Good Morning, Just a few friendly reminders as we move into our 3rd week of hybrid learning. (1) Students being sent home for COVID like symptoms (fever, headache, shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain) will result in all members of the household being sent home for precautionary purposes. The Morrison School District will be taking lunch orders for remote learning days beginning. MHS In-person learning Unless alternative arrangements have been made in advance, students with last names A-L will begin attending class in-person Thursday 8/20. Student with last name beginning M-Z will attend class on Friday 8/21. Doors will not be opened until 7:50am. Students will be temperature/COVID symptom checked by staff members at the door prior to entering. Freshman enter the main doors off of Genesee Ave. Sophomores enter the Swimming pool ramp door. Junior enter the South/Parking lot door, and Seniors enter the Team room door. Late students will need to enter through the main doors off of Genesee Ave. Students should be masked when entering the building. Phrases or pictures depicted on mask must be school appropriate in accordance to the dress code regulations in the 2020-21 Student Handbook. Students that initially test warmer than 100.4 will be retested after a short waiting period. If the student is still tests over 100.4 after repeated tests, they will be sent home and expected to check via the remote learning option. Early bird students should be in contact with their teacher to find instruction of what door to enter. Early bird sessions begin at 7:30am.
MHS Full remote learners MHS students that will be in-person learning will be receiving their Chromebook during their 1st period class on Thursday & Friday. Teachers will be discussing expectations for the in-person and remote learning experience at this time. Full remote learners should be in contact with their teacher s to ensure that they are able to receive the syllabus, gain access to Goggle classroom, receive instructions on texts, etc… All full remote learners are welcome to receive in-person help or pick up supplies/equipment/texts during the afterschool time frame. Please make an appointment with your teacher if you will be taking advantage of this opportunity during the 1st quarter. All PPE guidelines will be need to be followed during the afterschool appointment sessions.
WACC students. Bus will leave at 7:25am beginning 8/20/20. Temperature checks will begin prior to entering the bus at 7:15am. Masks must be worn at all times during the bus ride. Students will pick up their Chromebook upon return at approximately 10:25am. Students will be temperature checked upon their return to MHS campus. Students that are driving separately will be expected to arrive shortly after the bus has arrived and participate in the temperature check in procedure. In-person learners will report to their class in progress after receiving their Chromebook. Remote learners will be expected to return home. During the 1:05 dismissal schedule, the return from WACC will occur during the 4th period class. WACC students should make arrangements with their teacher and expect to complete assignments given in class as well as the remote learning assignments.

With school beginning this week the High School PE classes and Cross Country team will be utilizing the track more therefore we are closing the track for public usage between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm, beginning tomorrow (8.18.20). Thank you for continued patience and understanding.

Southside Parents: If your child’s last name falls within A-L your child will be in our A day group. If their last name falls M-Z your child will be in our B day group. I have made contact with any parent that is an exception to this guideline. Also Southside will NOT host an open house/back to school night. Please have your child begin bringing their supplies on their first in person day. For A day students this is August 20. For B day students this is August 21. For our new families, I will be creating a virtual tour/video outlining our building.
Unfortunately, we are still without power at MJHS. Because of this and the time left to do sixth grade orientation all 6th grade orientations will be canceled for today and tomorrow. I will instead be doing a virtual tour of the building and explaining as much as possible. Our 6th grade students can come to the junior high Monday, August 17 between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM to walk through the building, practice their lockers, and drop materials off. Parents are welcome to come help but please limit it to one. Masks will need to be worn and social distancing wherever possible.

Freshman Orientation – Mon 8/17. 3-5pm for students with last name beginning A-L; 5:30-7:30pm for M-Z. Students will be divided into groups of 4 with 1 leader. Building tour, Chromebooks, freshmen teachers, PE uniform ordering, lunch money, clubs & activities, and more to be discussed. 1 parent max per student. Parent participation is not necessary for this event.

Golf practice for tomorrow, Tuesday, has been cancelled. The team will travel back to Erie for practice on Wednesday afternoon.
WACC begins Thurs 8/20. Bus leaves at 7:25. Temp checks will be made prior to entering bus. Elevated temps will not be allowed to attend that day. WACC students will attend in person on all days WACC is in attendance. This includes days that MHS students are scheduled for remote learning. Students will join their MHS remote learning schedule upon returning from WACC. During 1:05 dismissals, student will be returning during 4th period. Students should contact their 4th period teacher & expect to engage in remote learning during the 1:05 dismissal timeframe. This is still subject to change based on MCUD6, WACC, &/or ISBE guidelines.

The Tri-County Conference (of which MJHS is a member) has made the decision to postpone 7th/8th grade girls volleyball, 7th/8th grade boys basketball and wrestling until at least, after the Winter Break. The conference will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and if it is deemed safe to return to play, we will implement abbreviated seasons.

MHS will be meeting with the conference to come up with new schedules where they apply: Return to Activities 1.0 On July 29th, 2020, the IHSA Board modified the Return to Activities to reflect the following: Certain fall sports will not be allowed to happen in the fall; as a result the IHSA calendar will be adjusted with the following tentative timelines. • Teams will play shortened regular season schedules in Winter, Spring, and Summer • State Series events for all sports will be determined on a sport by sport basis. • Activities that can happen virtually can remain in their traditional seasons. • Activities that can’t happen virtually could potentially need to adjust their seasons. • On July 29th, 2020, the IHSA Board modified the current Phase 4 Return to Play Guidelines to allow for fall contact days to begin on Monday of Week 10 (September 7, 2020) and continue until the end of Week 17 (October 31, 2020). There is a 20-day limit on contact days during that time period for any sport not in season. Fall (August 10 – October 24, 2020 in “traditional” season) Boys & Girls Golf - in groups of 50 or less where multiple groups are distanced a minimum of 30 ft apart. Competitions should be within an Illinois COVID Region or within a conference. Girls Tennis - in groups of 50 or less where multiple groups are distanced a minimum of 30 ft apart. The Rock River Valley Conference (of which MJHS is a member) has made the decision to postpone the 5th/6th grade 2020 volleyball season until further notice. This is not a cancellation. The conference will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and if it is deemed safe to return to play, the conference may implement an abbreviated season.

MHS summer school registration closes Thurs. 7/2. Classes will run Mon-Fri beginning on 7/6 through 7/30 from 8am-12pm. All ISBE & IDPH requirements will be strictly enforced, including the use of appropriate PPE including face coverings, temp. checks & social distancing.
Morrison High School to offer Summer Driver Education Morrison High School will offer a Summer Driver Education class from Monday, July 6 – Wednesday, July 29, 2020. During the four-week course, students will complete the 30-hour classroom portion via remote learning (through Zoom and Google Classroom) as well as complete six hours of on-road driving time and six hours of observation time. The online classroom sessions will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Mondays – Thursdays, and the behind-the-wheel driving sessions will be scheduled both before and after the online classroom sessions. The course is open to all students who will be 15 by Friday, July 10, regardless of whether they are enrolled at Morrison High School. All students must have passed a total of at least eight classes in the previous two semesters combined in order to be eligible to enroll in Driver Education. The fee for the course is $295, payable to Morrison Community Unit School Dist. #6. The 8th grade virtual promotion presentation is nearly complete. We hope to have it finished in the next day or two. It has definitely been a labor of love and we hope everyone will enjoy it. Thank you all for your patience.
Stage 1 Guideline Below you will find the rules that you must follow in order to participate in Stage 1 activities: 1. Masks do not have to be worn outside UNLESS you are unable to maintain a minimum 6' of social distancing. 2. All groups will consist of 10 people or less including coaches. Athletes will be grouped prior to their arrival by their coaches and these groups will be permanent. No athlete will be allowed to switch groups at a later time. Once groups are created they will not interact with any other grouping. 3. All athletes must remain in their car upon arrival and wait there until the coaching staff is ready for your group. We must maintain social distancing and avoid congregating in the parking lots. Upon completion of workouts, all athletes must immediately leave the premises. 4. Athletes will be met outside by the coaches to have temperatures taken and then will be escorted by the coach to the weight room or track. 5. All athletes must be symptom free in order to participate. This means if you are experiencing a fever, chills, cough, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell, you must stay home. You will have your temperature checked prior to participating each day. 6. You must bring your own water-bottle. I would suggest putting your name on it so there is no accidental sharing. Use of locker rooms, shared coolers, and water fountains are prohibited at this time. 7. The ice room will remain locked while athletes are present. 8. The rest rooms by the Ag room will be available the rest of the school will then be considered off limits to athletes during workouts. 9. The garage door and other exterior doors should remain closed to help eliminate congregating outside the weight room. 10. Hand sanitizer will be available and the equipment should be wiped down between lifts.
MHS athletics will be beginning to enter stage 1 of the IHSA's return to athletics. Coaches will reach out to their athletes to set up groups for lifting and conditioning. At this time there can be NO SPORT SPECIFIC drills or training. We have filled most of the coaching positions with the exception of volleyball. We continue to look for qualified candidates and will do our best to have the positions filled as soon as we can.
Summer School 2020 Students in grades 9–12 who received a grade of Incomplete for Spring 2020, or who need to retake a course they have failed in a prior term, are encouraged to participate in the summer school program. Details on credit recovery options for Grades 9-12 are available in the Morrison High School Handbook. Spring 2020 completion An Incomplete (I) on the student's latest report card signifies that a portion of required coursework for the Spring of 2020 has not been completed within the given time period due to unforeseen, but fully justified, reasons, but there is still a possibility of earning credit. It will be the student's responsibility to bring pertinent information to the summer school instructor and to reach an agreement with their Spring 2020 assigning teacher on the means by which the remaining course requirements shall be satisfied. Students earning completion of their Spring 2020 classes will be awarded a “Pass” for the course. Students only needing to complete Spring coursework in the live presence of a certified teacher will not be charged a summer school registration fee. It is encouraged that these students still register to make known their intention of attending the summer school sessions up until the time that they complete their requirements. Credit Recovery classes Classes will be offered through our traditional summer school program (APEX) in the building, under the guidance of our summer school instructor from July 6th-July 30th. Scheduling details will be determined based upon the demand for summer school instruction and the most current COVID-19 guidelines provided by the state of Illinois during the summer school window. Summer School registration will be open from Monday, June 15th through Thursday, July 2nd. High School Summer School fee is $100 per class or $150 for two classes. Checks payable to MCUD #6 or cash. Payment in full must be received by July 2nd. Fees may be paid through the District Office located at Morrison Junior High School, 300 Academic Drive.

The Music Booster's Spring Fundraiser delivery has been scheduled and confirmed for Tuesday, June 9. Items will be available for pickup in the High School Auditorium beginning at 2 pm. To allow for maximum safety during this pickup, we will be asking you to sign up for a 5-minute time slot in which to pick up your order. We will be limiting it to 4 pickups per time slot. We will also be asking that you wear a mask while in the building during the pickup. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. A few other things to help the pick up run smoothly: 1. Please bring a checkbook or enough cash to cover your order. We do not have the amount each individual owes until pickup time. Due to the delayed delivery and school no longer being in session, you will be asked to pay at the pickup and then can collect for yourself as you deliver. 2. Please do your best to practice physical distancing. Towards that end, we will have a one-way operation within the auditorium to help with that. 3. Many of these items need refrigeration. I have received a few questions about summer practices etc for our sports teams. As of 3:00 pm today Wednesday June 3rd the IHSA has not lifted its directive of no in person contact with athletes. Currently IHSA is working with the Illinois Department of Public Health to come up with guidelines for summer activities. Once those guidelines are released by the IHSA and reviewed by the district I will post them. Until they are released there should be no in person activities between coaches and athletes.

The United Way will once again be conducting it's "Let's Feed our Children Campaign". Starting June 3rd and running through August 5th, the United Way will be distributing groceries to families (1 bag per family) of Morrison. Hello Families! If you have library books to return, there is now a spot at each school where you can return books on packet pick-up day. On Tuesday the IHSA officially cancelled the spring sports state series for Illinois High School and with Governor Pritzker's suspension of in person learning last Friday all Spring activities for MCUD #6 unfortunately are cancelled for this year. Spring activity fees will be applied to next year's registration fees. However, if you wish to have your Spring activity fee refunded now please contact the District Office. The District will process and distribute refund checks as soon as possible to those requesting refunds. Thank you for your continued patience during this unprecedented time. Dear Northside and Southside Families, We know that these last few weeks have been full of changes, challenges and some stressful situations. 04/1/2020 To: MCUD #6 Parents/Guardians Re: Extension of Mandated Closure Dear Parents and Community Members: I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. Yesterday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced that remote learning in Illinois will be extended through April 30 in order to slow down the spread of COVID-19. During this time, on-site learning will remain suspended but our schools’ commitment to learning and education will remain open and learning will continue for all students - just through a different format. While it is not ideal, we want to assure you that at the Morrison School District, our teachers and staff are fully engaged and willing to take on this new challenge and push forward with remote learning, engaging with students and continuing with our food distribution program. I know this is not the school year that any of us imagined, but I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation together. Congratulations to Morrison High School’s Scholastic Bowl team for achieving a second-place finish in the Three Rivers Conference this season! Morrison finished the season with a 10-2 record.
Good Morning, As we are preparing to enter in an uncharted phase of our educational experience. Please know that our teachers and administrators are working tirelessly to get everything ready to continue to educate our students. Before our E-Learning formally begins tomorrow there are several items that I want to make you aware of, additional information, including links to daily/weekly assignments, can be found on the E-Learning segment of the District website. Parents will NO longer need to take attendance daily. Fridays in April will be classified as "Remote Learning Planning Days". These days will allow our teachers the opportunity to plan, prepare videos/instructional packets, and many other things for the upcoming week. On these days teachers may not be available to respond to student questions. If students have questions on those days they may submit them and the teacher will get to them as soon as they can. Lunch will be provided for students who sign up using the google form throughout the mandated closure. For the safety of students and staff we are limiting access to the buildings so if you need anything from your students locker etc...they should get them today. If you cannot make it in today please contact your students principal to make alternate arrangements. As we have stated before this situation is one that none of us has ever encountered. Everyone in our district is working to make this transition as smooth as possible. I cannot say enough how proud I am of our staff and the effort they have put in. We will continue to do whatever we can to meet the needs of all our students. I wanted to remind all junior high families that the building will be open for students to come in and get books, materials, chromebooks, PE clothes, and anything else they may need. It will be open today from 2:00pm until 6:00pm and tomorrow from 8:00am until 12:00pm. Students will also be able to check books out from the library if they wish.

03/15/2020 To: MCUD #6 Parents/Guardians Re: COVID-19 UPDATE (2) Dear Parents/Guardians: Earlier this evening I made the decision to close school tomorrow March 16th, 2020. Please know that this decision was not made lightly, but was made in consideration for the safety of our students and staff. As a result of the decision to close there are several items that need to be shared and questions answered. Will these days need to be made up? The state board of education has determined that all school days between March 17th and March 30th will be designated as Act of God Days. Act of God days are utilized when circumstances beyond the district’s control cause a school/district to close and therefore DO NOT need to be made up. Tomorrow (March 16th) was not designated as an Act of God Day and will therefore need to be made up. The decision on when tomorrow will be made up will be made at a later date depending on when we return to regularly scheduled classes. Is it possible that the mandated school closure be extended? At this point that is a possibility. The governor in his statewide conference call with superintendents on Friday stated that an extension may be a possibility. Will the District alter Spring Break? NO. The district will maintain the current Spring Break schedule. Is the District going to engage in E learning? Not at this time. Since these days are designated as Act of God Days (see #1 above) they do not count as instructional days. Furthermore the ISBE is continuing to develop guidelines as it pertains to E Learning and until such time as those guidelines are set the District will not be engaging in an E Learning program. In the event that the mandated closure is extended the District will notify parents of the plan to continue your child’s instruction. What can I do to help with my child’s education? The District will be posting links to educational resources that will help to keep students engaged and reinforce learning that has already occurred. Will lunch be provided for students during the mandated closure? YES. A school closure lunch order form was sent out earlier tonight. If you did not receive that notification you can phone into the district office to place your order. The district will offer grab and go lunches or the option to have lunches delivered. Where can we go to get more information? All updates pertaining to COVID-19 and our District will come from my office and will be posted on the District social media sites, website, and emailed to parents/guardians as soon as possible. Are extracurricular activities allowed to practice during the closure? NO. As long as the mandated closure is in effect all extracurricular activities are cancelled. The District will continue post updates as they are made available from the IHSA and the IESA. Additionally the high school weight room will not be open. Will students have access to the building to retrieve books etc…? There will be a minimum number of staff on site during the closure, but there is no guarantee that that means you will be able to access the building. Please read the following message from the Northside/Southside PTO: Based on the district’s closing from March 16-30, 2020 due to COVID - 19, we have decided to cancel the Hurts Donut fundraiser this year. Although we’re disappointed that we had to make this choice, we are uncertain as to what the next few weeks will bring and if we could make the fundraiser up at a later date. Students who have already turned in their fundraiser forms and money will have the envelopes returned to them when school reopens. If an earlier timeframe is desired, please private message our Facebook page or a member of the PTO. As this fundraiser was meant to provide programming and cover the cost of field trip bussing for our Northside and Southside students, we hope to find other ways of raising funds in the near future.

The March Madness games scheduled for tonight at Morrison High School have been postponed. We will host the event later in school year. Also all sporting events for next week have been cancelled. Today the MHS BLIND leaders along with some of their freshmen group members visited the students of Northside. The students read a story to the kids and then passed out candy canes and books. The Rotary Club of Morrison generously purchases a book for each child at Northside. Thank you Rotary for helping provide each student with a new book at Christmas time! 🎄📖🎁

Saturday November 16th MHS football will be playing Annawan-Wethersfield at Wethersfield Memorial Stadium at 439 Willard St. in Kewane. The game time has been set for 1:00 pm with the gates opening at 11:00 am. Ticket prices have been set by the IHSA at $7.00 for all attending the game except babies that are carried. A-W is bringing in extra seating to accommodate a larger crowd.

Southside Parents/Guardians, Morning Drop-off procedure reminder: We ask you to please pull into the parking lot and pull along the sidewalk that runs parallel with the playground at the Southside/Jr. High parking lot to drop off your student(s) at Southside. Please DO NOT drop them off on the road outside the parking lot, or amongst the parked cars in the first lane of the parking lot. There have been a few close calls already this year with students running in front of cars and almost getting hit. If you need to drop off at the road, please do so past the parking lot where students won’t enter the lot and go between cars. Our student’s safety is the most important part of this procedure. Crossroads Church is once sponsoring their annual Thanksgiving Basket outreach. Every year they pack baskets containing everything needed to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner and deliver them to families in need in our community. Baskets are given on a first come, first served basis with limited availability and they try to get them into homes where they are needed most. This year they have several extra baskets available and would like to give them to any any families with pressing needs this holiday season? Information for tomorrow's football playoff game. The main ticket booth will open at 2:30 pm. Those buying tickets prior to the opening of the gates may proceed to the pass gate at the North end of the stadium for entry at 3:00 pm. Both ticket gates will open at 3:00 pm. ALL tickets are $5.00 and the price is set by they IHSA. The game will be broadcast on our NFHS network and by WLLT Radio 94.3 FM.
Attention Northside parents: Due to the forecast, Northside will not be having our costume parade tomorrow. Students can still bring their costumes and will still be celebrating Halloween in their classrooms, but there will be no parade.
