Morrison High School is planning to offer both the Classroom and Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) phases of Driver Education during the Summer 2021 summer school session. Provided that at least 12 students register and pay for the course by the April 30, 2021 registration deadline, the program will run from Tuesday, June 1 through Thursday, June 24 and will be priced at $295.00.
The classroom course will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday-Thursdays. No classroom or behind-the-wheel (BTW) driving sessions will be held on Fridays. The course will be open to students outside District #6 as well as those who live within District #6’s boundaries.
The BTW driving sessions will take place both before the course (from 7:30-9:30 a.m.) and after the course (from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 3:00-5:00 p.m.); students will be able to select BTW driving time slots that fit their schedules during a time-slot selection process on the first day of the course.
During the program, students will complete the 30-hour classroom requirement, the 6-hour BTW driving requirement, and the 6-hour in-car observation requirement. As long as the Illinois State Board of Education continues to allow online instruction for Driver Education, students will have the option to take the 30-hour course in an online format via Google Meet or in an in-classroom format.
Students will also need to pay a $20.00 instruction permit fee to the Illinois Secretary of State when they apply for their instruction permits. In addition, students must be 15 or older by Tuesday, June 1, 2021 to enroll in the course.
Students, parents/guardians, and community members with questions about the Summer 2021 Driver Education course should contact Brian Bartoz, Social Studies & Driver Education Teacher, by e-mail at Brian.Bartoz@morrisonschools.org or by phone at (815) 772-4071 x 12106. Mr. Bartoz will send registration forms via e-mail starting the week of March 8 to parents/guardians who have expressed an interest in registering their students for the course.
