As a reminder all home girls high school basketball games will be played by the Varsity at 5:30 pm and the JV game to follow. Most of the teams on our schedule have also agreed to that format for the away games. I will post prior to any away games that the Varsity will play second.

Congratulations to Morrison High School’s Varsity Scholastic Bowl team on its first-place finish in the Riverdale Early Season Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Riverdale High School! This year’s first-place finish improves upon Morrison’s third-place finish at the tournament last year. Morrison won six of its seven matches on Nov. 18, defeating Annawan, Geneseo, LaSalle-Peru, United Township, Moline, and Riverdale, and losing one match to Ashton-Franklin Center. Morrison pulled off a tremendous upset in the championship round against Riverdale. Morrison, trailing Riverdale by a score of 230-100 at halftime after 10 questions, managed to catch up to Riverdale by the end of the 17th question. Morrison continued scoring on questions 18, 19 and 20, and ultimately won the match by a score of 340-300 to secure the first-place finish. Morrison’s team consisted of Violet Mills, Gen Vegter, Nara Hardesty, Quinn Blevins, and Blaine Williams.

Morrison High School welcomed local veterans on Friday, Nov. 10 for its annual Veterans Day Recognition Assembly. The event included reflections from local veterans, including Morrison American Legion Post 328 Commander Larry Zuidema and U.S. Marine Corps veteran James Prombo. Following the assembly, students from the National Honor Society and Key Club served pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, and cookies to veterans in the high school’s cafeteria. Morrison High School extends its thanks to all those who served our country in the armed forces!

Tuesday November 14th will be Jeg's last day at Southside before his surgery. The students and staff will be doing a surprise going away party for Jeg at 2:15. Jeg is going to be dismissed from the front of Southside at 2:40. We would love to have community members make a "tunnel" from the front of the building toward the junior high to give him a send off he won't forget. If you have questions just call us at the school at 815-772-2183. Don't forget to wear purple!
