Morrison High School junior (and Key Club member) Mark Cyphers traveled to Chicago on Sunday, May 1 to lend his support to the United for Ukraine initiative. Over the weekend, American, Ukrainian, and Polish volunteers packed backpacks with donated school supplies that will be shipped to Ukrainian children attending schools in Poland. Close to 200 backpacks in a Schaumburg warehouse are ready to be shipped overseas as result of the volunteers’ work. Kudos to Mark for his commitment to serve those in need!

Morrison High School extends its thanks to the students, staff, parents/guardians, and community volunteers involved in making the 2022 Prom, “Moonlight Masquerade,” a success on April 30. We also would like to thank the parents of junior-year students for their work organizing a superb Post-Prom carnival at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Their behind-the-scenes work for months prior to the event set the stage for a wonderful Post-Prom experience. Thank you to Morrison resident Amanda Cook and science teacher Toni Prombo for their work organizing Grand March, which featured couples and individuals announced by Morrison resident Trent Bush. Many thanks to Morrison HS PE teacher Julia Deter for her work as the accompanist during the event. Congratulations to all members of the Morrison High School Prom Court, including (pictured l-r in the attached photo from Stephanie Vavra) Junior Prince Zed Koch, Junior Princess BayLeigh Brewer, Prom Queen Macy Williamson, and Prom King Jakob Dykema.

Today, three MHS students attended Sauk's first ever Education Symposium. Students from around the area who are interested in careers in the field of education came together to participate in activities, attend an education college and career fair, and network with current education professionals, including the 2022 Illinois Teacher of the Year. Also, senior Tanna Frederick was recognized, along with 13 other students from around the area, for receiving her Education Pathway Endorsement from the state. Tanna received recognition for this endorsement from the State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carmen Ayala. Congratulations to Tanna as she graduates MHS to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education at Illinois State University.

Second graders at Northside used an egg candler to see the difference between chicken eggs that are not developing and eggs that contain a live chick embryo. They were excited to see a tiny chick actively moving and were able to detect the dark black spot on the head where the eye is located, even through the shell. Afterward the recorded their observations in their embryology journal. They are eagerly awaiting Day 21 when the eggs will hatch, around May 12th.

Yesterday MHS held its first Day Without Hate in three years. MHS B.L.I.N.D. leaders greeted students as they walked into school, giving out bracelets, candy, smiles, and positivity. Students also participated in kindness challenges during the passing periods, like saying hello to people they don't usually talk to, and giving out compliments to others. We are glad to have this tradition back at MHS, and are looking forward to next year's Day Without Hate.
